As the pandemic has prevented Busfest in Whittlesey from happeneing, the Eastern Bus Enthusiasts group has organised a Road Run for preserved buses this Sunday, October 11th. Starting from Queensgate at 09.25, the itinerary covers a wide area. No passengers will be taken (except by private arrangement) but members of the public will be able to view the passing vehicles along the route provided that social distancing is observed and that groups consist of no more than six people. Full details are on the EBE Facebook page.

Further Delaine changes from September 28th
Delaine has issued a new timetable for route 101/2 valid from today, September 28th, due to current low patronage on route 102 (note that the date at the bottom of the timetable is 10/20).
Service 101 is not affected, but the 0740 service 102 Deepings to Peterborough is withdrawn on Mondays to Saturdays, and ALL journeys on service 102 are suspended on Saturdays until further notice.

Delaine changes from September 3rd
From the start of the new school term on September 3rd Delaine has made the following changes:
The 1645 journey on route 102 Peterborough - Deeping St James - Bourne is cut back to Market Deeping Health Centre (this corrects my earlier report).
On schooldays the 0745 Peterborough to Bourne (route 101) is reserved for students only, as the social distancing rules for school students are different to those for adults. This also applies to the 0730 102 journey but only between Market Deeping Health Centre and Bourne. The 1545 Bourne to Peterborough journey (route 101) and the 1545 Bourne to Market Deeping (route 102) are likewise reserved for students only.
On route 201 the 0744 Stamford - Bourne and 1545 Bourne - Stamford journeys only carry students.
On certain other journeys at school times the upper deck is reserved for students. Full details are on the Delaine website (and on appropriate links on the ROUTES page) as are similar details for route 203.

School service changes
Stagecoach 38 Eye to Arthur Mellows Village College in Glinton recommences on September 7th and is renumbered 608. Two buses will operate rather than one (officially timetabled one minute apart) to aid social distancing.
Stagecoach school service 46 Peterborough - Sawtry is understood to be withdrawn.
Centrebus 47 Oakham - Uppingham - Peterborough has recommenced but is now a "closed door" service and will only take students in posession of a termly student ticket.

Stagecoach B replaced by 904 from August 30th
Stagecoach's Busway B service is now concentrated on the Busway itself and Peterborough is now served by hourly route 904 running Peterborough - Stilton - Sawtry - Huntingdon - St Ives, and also calling at Hinchingbrooke Hospital. Departures from Peterborough Acland Street are hourly 0600 to 2000 (no Sunday service). For Cambridge change at St Ives.
Between Huntingdon and St Ives the 904 is routed direct via Houghton rather than via Oxmoor, Hartford and RAF Wyton. For these destinations change onto Busway route B at Huntingdon bus station.
01/09/20

There is a new Excel Peterborough - Norwich timetable from July 5th. Monday to Friday timings remain the same as far as Peterborough is concerned but the Saturday timetable (from July 11th) is restored to two buses per hour meaning that the full timetable is now in operation.

Using buses and trains from June 15th
As has been widely reported, face coverings will be compulsory on public transport from Monday June 15th. The only exceptions are children under 11, disabled people and those with certain health conditions. The Police will be able to issue fixed penalty notices for non compliance (£100, or £50 if paid within 14 days).
With the opening of non-essential shops from the same date, the doors of Queensgate bus station will once again be open, avoiding the need for passengers to walk around the outside of the building to access buses. Social distancing measures will be in place. Note that the bus station toilets will remain closed, but those upstairs in Queensgate will be open.
The relaxation of the concessionary bus pass rules has, I believe, now ceased, and passes are once again not valid before 0930 on Mondays to Fridays (passes issued to Lincolnshire residents are valid all day as usual).
Please remember to socially distance at the bus stop and on board, and to pay by card rather than cash where possible.

Diamond 203 Irchester - Peterborough Withdrawn
Sadly it has been reported that Diamond Coaches of Rushden is ceasing all its local bus services from Monday April 27th. This of course includes the monthly Irchester - Raunds - Thrapston - Peterborough service 203, which was worked by a double decker and was popular with shoppers and bus enthusiasts alike. This will be a sad loss.

Stagecoach and First Excel will be running a Sunday service (based on the revised temporary timetables) on Good Friday, Easter Sunday and Easter Monday.

Stagecoach timetable changes from Monday March 9, 2020
As well as the temporary bus station (see below), there are timetable changes to Stagecoach services from Monday March 9 as follows:
Citi 1 - Revised timetable with journeys retimed by a few minutes to improve reliability. The Sunday daytime frequency is increased from every 30 minutes to every 15 minutes. Journeys to Werrington will depart from Queensgate Bay 6.
Citi 2 - Revised timetable with daytime journeys running every 12 minutes instead of every 10 minutes. Journeys to Paston will depart from Queensgate Bay 8. Certain late evening journeys will no longer serve the main entrance at the City Hospital, calling instead at the stop by the main road as they do during rush hours (now shown in timetables as stop 4).
Citi 3 - Revised timetable with daytime journeys running every 12 minutes instead of every 10 minutes.
Citi 4 - Revised timetable. Serves Acland Street bus park instead of Queensgate bus station in both directions. On Mondays to Fridays the last journey from the City Hospital will be slightly earlier at 2003, and the journey extended beyond Parnwell to Eye will leave the city centre earlier at 1845 instead of 1905 (still 1855 on Saturdays).
Citi 5 - Revised timetable with daytime services to each outer destination (Yaxley, Cardea, Bluebell and Welland) reduced from every 20 minutes to every 30 minutes. As a result buses over the core section (Stanground South Street to Dogsthorpe Central Avenue Shops) will run every 15 minutes instead of every 10 minutes. Evening services are also retimed. Services to Dogsthorpe and Welland will now leave from Queensgate Bay 1A.
Citi 6 - Revised timetable with changes after 1600 hrs. Serves Acland Street bus park (Bay 3) instead of Queengate bus station.
Route 23/24 - Serves Acland Street bus park (Bay 1) instead of Queengate bus station. The 1620 Peterborough to Lynch Wood leaves 5 minutes earlier.
Route 31 - Timetable unchanged but serves Acland Street bus park (Bay 1) instead of Queengate bus station.
Route 33 - On Mondays to Fridays the Peterborough - Whittlesey Victory Avenue journeys before 1510 run five minutes later in both directions, although the through journeys to/from March are not affected. Serves Acland Street bus park (Bay 1) instead of Queengate bus station.

Temporary Bus Station in Acland Street
From Monday March 9, the eastern side of the bus station (bays 10a to 20) is due to close for approximately 18 months for building work in connection with Queensgate Shopping Centre. Many Stagecoach bus services will relocate to a temporary bus station in Acland Street coach park, approximately five minutes walk from the bus station. Stagecoach Citi routes 1, 2, 3 and 5 will remain in Queensgate bus station as will route X4 and services operated by Delaine, First Excel and other operators, but some will move to different bays. National Express services will relocate to Acland Street apart from those in the middle of the night. For full details see the Bus Station page.

Revised X4 timetable from February 23, 2020
Stagecoach is changing the X4 timetable from February 23 with most journeys retimed by a few minutes. The first journey on Saturday mornings is withdrawn, so the first bus from Oundle to Peterborough is now at 0638 instead of 0608, and the first Saturday departure from Peterborough is now 0730 instead of 0652. Also withdrawn is the 1855 Peterborough to Corby journey on Saturdays. Relevant pages have been updated.

New Excel timetable from February 16, 2020
The XL Peterborough - Kings Lynn - Norwich service operated by First under the Excel branding will have a new timetable from Sunday February 16, and from the following day will also have brand new double deck buses sporting a revised red livery. The new buses include free WiFi, USB sockets, comfortable high-backed seats, seat-back phone holders, and some seats will be located around tables. They also have the latest Euro VI low-emission engines.
The new Monday to Saturday timetable will feature later journeys for Thorney as the last bus in each direction will no longer bypass the village. Most timings for other locations are similar, except that journeys towards Peterborough will depart up to 10 minutes earlier. An exception, however, is that alternate buses will take the Dereham bypass meaning that passengers from Peterborough to Dereham will now have an hourly service instead of every 30 minutes.
On Sundays the timetable is completely revised, with departures from Peterborough hourly 0900 to 1900. The last Sunday bus right through to Norwich will now be at 1800 instead of 1640, although in the other direction the last Sunday departure from Norwich for Peterborough will be earlier at 1530.
Note that buses on the Excel route carry a letter A, B or C according to the particular route variation taken (also D is used for Dereham - Norwich journeys). The ones that bypass Thorney carry letter C. Beware that buses showing route B could easily be confused with Stagecoach's route B to Cambridge, except that the new Excel buses are a distinctive red, and most of the buses to Cambridge carry a new light green livery!
